Across to Central Park to check out the skyline from there. This ended the first part of our tour and we farewelled our new friends Jilllian and Denise from Ohio. They’ve been great fun and we’ve enjoyed their humour (and they seemed to get ours).
Read MoreAll the way through NY and Pennsylvania are amazingly neat towns and picturesque farms. Many of the fields are bare waiting for winter. Passing through one town we even spotted an Amish family in a horse-drawn buggy bottle feeding an infant. Can’t do that in the front seat of a car.
Read MoreAfterwards we thought we should go across to Canada. This is a walk over the Rainbow bridge and a cursory passport check, even with a NZ passport. The US side is a State park and sedate.

Even though we didn’t arrive at our hotel until after 9.30pm we still decided it was a good time to go for a quick look at the falls – yes in the dark and in the rain. The Hotel is right next door, beautiful and quirky.

Read MoreWe came into Chicago in the dark and loved how decorated the houses were in the area by our hotel, lots of lights and blow up ghosts etc. Such fun. We're lookforward to seeing what halloween is like here tomorrow night.
Read MoreBefore dinner we raced out to the ruins of the Queen Bee Mill adjacent to the Big Sioux River. It was freezing and as the last light dropped and the falls lights came on we shivered back into the car and returned to the hotel.
Read MoreWe returned for a night visit to Mount Rushmore. They have lights for illumination and they appear to float. Even though it was after 6 it was still reasonably busy.
Read MoreWatching the sky, we hoped to stop for sunset somewhere. We just picked a road off the highway to an idyllic rural area complete with brook gurgling and horses snickering in the pasture. It was an okay sunset but I think it underlined that this is the countryside.
Read MoreRosie decided on the East Café Chinese restaurant for her birthday dinner. There are always variations in Chinese food but this was delightful. A good treat for Rosie’s birthday.
Read MoreFinally, we joined Denver’s rush hour, checked in and went out to the “An Act of God” show at the Denver Centre for the Performing Arts. It was a well performed show almost carried by one guy to about 300 of us. Almost booked out it was a great laugh.
Read MoreFinally came into Moab and checked in prior to dinner at the Moab Diner. Cherry pie was good. Moab is cute and touristy.
Read MoreRamsey’s here (there are at least three restaurants) is casual trying to be a pub but pricey ($20-40 mains) but the food and service was good. The deserts were especially good with the Eton’s Mess and Sticky Toffee Pudding, yum.
Read MoreWe then passed through Boulder City with its history of being the worker construction town it still has a historic feel with a main street of cafes, antique and craft stores. Lunch was ok spoiled a bit by the disinterested service but the quaint street eating ad food made up for it.
